Firecracker Ball
The mission of Leap Frog is to provide a nurturing environment in which “at-risk” students can develop and enhance necessary skills for academic success, build productive, ongoing relationships with adults, and improve their self-esteem.

• Leap Frog is a non-profit after-school tutoring and mentoring program that
serves 140 at-risk 1st, 2nd and 3rd graders from Oxford City and Lafayette county schools.

• The program began in September 1990 at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, with Kris Mink as the first director. It began as an outreach ministry, serving 16 second graders. After much hard work and dedication, the program has grown to serve 140- 1st, 2nd and 3rd graders!

• Classroom teachers refer students who they feel are at-risk for falling behind academically, and or, need extra TLC, and whose parents aren’t able to afford private tutoring.

• Lafayette County students attend Leap Frog on Mondays and Wednesdays, and Oxford city students attend Leap Frog on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Students receive one hour of one-on-one tutoring. They are paired with one consistent tutor all semester.

• Students also participate in our enrichment activities and “Leap into Shape” exercise program.

• Our May 2015, data showed that only 44% of our students were reading on grade level when they exited the program, and that 94% of our students progress to the next grade level. The reading data is a hard fact to swallow, and that is why we know that this program is definitely needed to help these students succeed.

• We use over 200 volunteers a semester from the University of Mississippi.

• Students are bussed to their site, and parents or guardians are responsible for picking them up.
